1) Can anyone lay
resin covering?
For resin covering to meet your needs and remain durable, its components must be of consistent, long-lasting quality. The covering must also be designed correctly and applied just as correctly by a competent and professionally qualified person. This person must be able to assess and prevent all the possible problems associated with the nature and consistency of the product, the environmental conditions at the time of application and the chemism of the components. Good products and suitable components can still make for coverings with defects and/or imperfections if entrusted to an inexperienced person.
2) Can resin be applied to cover up imperfections in a surface?
Yes, providing the imperfections do not require reconstruction of the surface.
3) How resistant is resin-covered flooring?
There are many possible solutions. Ours is to talk with the customer to define his requirements in terms of
mechanical strength in order to offer him solutions that are the best and most satisfactory in the long term. Resin naturally withstands the impact of human traffic, therefore a little surface scratching has to be tolerated even in the case of civil flooring, especially in areas where there is most pedestrian activity such as corridors and entrance halls.
4) Is it possible to repair a resin-covered floor?
Yes. A resin-covered floor can always be repaired, and made to look almost as good as new. The most problematic are glossy coverings because light refraction and the very nature of the covering make repairs more likely to stand out against the rest of the floor. For this reason we generally advise against laying a resin floor in a completely uniform colour: touches made to a hand-painted floor are less apparent. Matt and satin finishes permit excellent chromatic touches, filling-work and maintenance.
5) Can a resin floor develop cracks?
No, providing the laying, quality and quantity of the material and the conditions of the foundations are all in order. Only flooding and structural movement of the building can crack the resin. Slight natural movement in the foundations and hot/cold dilation, instead, are well tolerated. Cracks are, therefore, quite rare.
6) Are resin floors easy to clean?
Yes. A resin floor can be cleaned and sanitized with all cleaning products commonly available in the shops that have a NEUTRAL PH and are not abrasive. The benefits of resin floors over other types of floor are:
a. Resin floors do not have any cracks and, therefore, there are no points where dirt can accumulate;
b. Resin floors are not porous, so dust and dirt in general can be removed in a quick and easy manner.
7) Is it possible to lay resin in rooms where there is under-floor heating?
Yes. As a general rule, under-floor heating elements and pipes are best laid at a depth of at least 4 cm in the screed. This condition is sufficient for all types of flooring and, therefore, also for resin flooring. Resin flooring is also an excellent heat conductor.
8) Is it possible to lay resin flooring on an old tiled floor?
Yes. Resin flooring is often considered ideal for renovation work. The fact that it is very thin and can adhere easily to old floors solves the problem of taking up the tiles. It must be emphasized, however, that the old floor must, no matter the type, be in good condition and firmly in place to make the laying of a new resin floor feasible.
9) For how long can a resin floor last?
The time it takes for a resin floor to wear out depends on where it is used. The macroscopic advantage of resin floors over other types of flooring is that they wear out only on the top and only in the areas most prone to stress. This means your floor can be given a special treatment (at low cost) by a specialized firm such as ours and made to look as good as new again.
10) Is resin suitable for any environment? Can it be applied both as flooring and as a covering?
Yes. We offer a broad selection of effects and finishes for all manner of environments (industrial, commercial and domestic such as houses, apartments and lofts, and for exteriors, etc.)
11) Is resin flooring susceptible to damp?
No, but it is necessary to check for rising damp beforehand. If there is any damp, we need to lay breathable resin products. In the case of obvious damp, it is also necessary to lay a “vapour barrier” (recommended also for all other types of flooring). The choice of resin flooring can then be laid on top.
12) Is it also possible to cover the walls of showers and bathrooms with resin?
Yes. Resin is very easy to clean and is highly impermeable. Most importantly, resin is affected by humidity from beneath, but never from the outside environment.
13) Can you get resin waterproofing for exteriors?
Yes. There are resin waterproofing products for exteriors that are highly elastic and tolerant to weathering, and undoubtedly better than traditional coatings and liners. The latter can be treated with weatherproofing resin, providing they are in reasonable condition. The cost of resin waterproofing is far lower than the cost of removing, disposing of and replacing old liners with new ones.
14) Is it possible to cover stairs and furnishings with resin?
Yes. All types of stairs and furnishings can be given a resin covering. Resin also adheres strongly to glass products.
15) Is it possible to have a wall covering that matches a resin floor?
Yes. There is only one real difference between resin flooring and resin covering: the former requires high mechanical and impact resistance, so the resin is “structured”; vertical coverings, instead, are subject to virtually no wear at all, and therefore it is sufficient to lay decorative resin.
16) Can a resin floor be in any choice of colour/pattern?
Yes. Depending on the variables like type of application, mono-chromatic colours (190 RAL colours) used singly and in combination for different effects create a choice of around 9,000 possibilities.
17) How long does it take to lay a traditional resin floor or covering?
About one working week for flooring and walls. Please note, however, that we have to factor in the time required to let the layers of resin dry, which can also vary according to weather conditions and atmospheric humidity.
18) Is resin flooring environmentally friendly?
The materials that make up resin flooring are CLASS 1 and certain finishes are even suitable for use with food. Resin flooring and coverings are often found in public places, being in absolute conformity with the laws in force. After laying, the chemical nature of the resin is sealed once and for all and, as a result, the flooring does not release any substances in the air or with direct contact with skin. 90% of the products we use are
solvent free.
19) Can flooring and coverings be laid at industrial premises/offices/showrooms over holiday periods to avoid downtime?
Yes. We always consider the customer’s needs: our team of skilled professionals are available also during holiday periods to avoid inconvenience to the customer and to perform the work in as little time as possible.
